The Eve of Travel

In the church, Eves are big deals.  I don't mean Eden Eves, but the day before.  Probably comes from the Hebrew custom of starting a day at sunset the day before. So this is Oslo Eve.  It has a nice ring to it.  If I had an open bottle of wine, I'd probably be tempted to celebrate more vigorously.

Why am I going Nor-ward, you ask?  I've been invited to participate in a conference for LGBT clergy and laity.  31 participants from 12 countries, funded by Open Church, 3 Lutheran dioceses in Norway and there are also other sources of funding.  It's a wonderful opportunity for us all to gather and pray and learn together.  I'm thrilled to have been asked.

Of course, I'm sitting in my living room at 9pm.  My car needs emptied of several things necessary for my trip; my clothes need organized, the suitcase needs to be dragged out and things must be all ready to depart my house at about 8:15a.m. for an 11a.m. flight to NYC, a 16:45 flight to Amsterdam and a Thursday morning 7a.m flight to Oslo, arriving around 9.  As you can see, it's easier for me to blog than to do all those other things.  And, oh, I really should mop the floors too but probably will only sweep.   I also found out today that my Verizon Droid is useless in Norway.  Nice.  Leave it to the USA to be on a phone standard different from all the rest of the world!

I suppose I should move myself to do a few more things before I crash to sleep poorly in anticipation of not sleeping at all tomorrow night.   I might be moved to blog again in the morning rather than doing things that need doing.  Good night.

  1. I love the blog 'name.' In terms of a man packing, how long does it take to count: briefs; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7; T-shirts; 1, 2,3,4...7; socks: 1 ....7? I appreciate how exciting a venture this is for you and your ministry. I know that many lives will be enriched because of you. And, yes, I will savor every bite you eat, [especially the herring], and every drink you sip! God speed.

  2. Get cracking packing, Reverend Mulcahy! LOL ... I can't wait to hear about all your food experiences. I remember being introduced to caviar in Denmark... yeccchhhh! Of course, it was CHEAP caviar. I hope you get to try some good stuff, a la your E. European sojourn.

C ya! I'll be reading ya!
